Regrettably, VYSA is canceling tomorrow's Opening Day Ceremonies due to the impending weather. Please contact your players. The weather forecast shows rain continuing through the morning. With an already tight schedule, we do not have a make up date for the ceremonies.
* * * Games have NOT been cancelled at this time. * * *
Please monitor our website ( http://soccervernon.org/) in the morning for any updates regarding cancellations. A decision will be made in the morning to see if we can actually get any games in. If we go ahead with games, please have your teams arrive early (at least 15-20 minutes) to pick up uniforms. If games are cancelled, we will get the uniforms to the division directors, who will make arrangements to get the uniforms to their coaches.
Special Thanks
Preparing for opening day is a big effort, and while we have to cancel, it does not hide the fact that a number of people were involved in getting us ready. I'd like to send a special thank you to Stu Jones, Andy Halpryn, Debbie Halpryn, Stephen Witkun, Steve Eppler, Jordan Scheff, Lee Anne Drost, Craig Abrahamson, Rick Oliva, Holly Rouleau, the Vernon Fire Department and the Vernon Parks and Recreation Department for helping out. These people helped plan & organize, offered service & equipment, and ran around getting everything ready and tried to make Opening Day a little different this year. Thanks again. |

Amazing Run
The Vernon Sparks capped its amazing run through the U-10 Division at Oakwood with a 4-4 tie against Glastonbury Arsenal on Jan. 17, clinching the Session I Indoor Championship at the Oakwood Sports Center in Glastonbury. The Sparks, who had defeated Arsenal 6-3 on Jan. 3, finished at 7-0-1 in the 12-team league, which included premier level teams from Oakwood and Northeast United along with travel squads from five other towns. The Sparks defeated four of the top seven teams en route to the title, outscoring their opponents by a combined score of 59-16, an average of more than five goals per game. A balanced attack and the league's best defense spurred the Sparks to the championship. All 12 players scored at least one goal and the Sparks allowed the fewest goals in the league.
